The walk began as an MA project with the intention of creating of a walking/ drawing guide to Lulworth Estate highlighting some of my favourite places to go. This guide was one of the commercial outcomes of my residency at Lulworth Estate aimed at families and is currently under further development. The hope is to create a printed book of my images of Lulworth whilst in residence and include a map of my personal walks in the landscape that describes my point of view, my response and my story.
Walking the landscape has always been something I have enjoyed doing. I feel unburdened by every day problems, and am continually amazing and awed by the things I see when outdoors and have to time to think and positively reflect. Many feel that to walk the landscape is to know it and I firmly believe that this is true. Being out amongst the elements and moving through the landscape, where ever that may be, engages my creativity and taps into something that is intangible; a relationship, a feeling, a visceral experience, a sense of perspective.
I am drawn to draw the landscape as I experience it, on foot, in solitude or with others, on my own terms.
In 2018 I plan to walk many walks in England and abroad, allowing myself time to return to familiar places and to explore new ones. I will record my experiences through drawing, sound and writing and share them so that others can connect with me and the places I discover.
My hope to create other 'walks' and evolve this simple idea into something that will feed my creativity and spur me onto go on new adventures.
